Ford 651 hydraulics

Anyone know much about these "FDS457 Hydraulic Valve Adapter Kits" sold on various tractor parts sites? Wanting to add single acting cylinder capability on my 651 tractor to operate a hydraulic arm hoist that I built, but don't want to have to chain the three-point lift down every time I go to use it. I have an open center valve for it already. I used this hoist on my Jubilee tractor, but it already had an adapter plate on it. Can't swap the adapter because they are different.

I don't have any experience with that part number from Steiners, but it looks similar to the HV4902 adapter plate that a lot of other sites sell. I'm wondering if that part number means that it's made by someone else or if Steiners just puts their own part number on it to be different?

I have the HV5902 version, which has a third port for Power Beyond, on my '73 4000, and it works great as advertised. The adapter plates should be interchangeable between any tractors from the hundred series, '01 series, 4 cylinder 2000/4000 series, 3 cylinder 2000/3000/4000 series and 2600/3600/4600 series.

Why not just add a remote valve instead of the adapter?
They come up on eBay or CraigsList pretty regular.
Always on eBay new, but pricey. There are many different styles.
The one you have for a Jubilee, if like this first pic, fetch a premium.
So does the dual valve in the second picture. The third is Tisco
and works fine. The Jubilee valve will fit the 651 with an adapter
plate. I recently sold the one pictured with the adapter to fit a x01.

I found the adapter in my first picture for about $50. I already have the valve I can mount on the fender where it's handy to operate. I found out this plate with the valve I have will let me use my hoist and still use the 3-point as long as I don't try to use both at the same time. That will work for me. I think this will be my cheapest, easiest route to go. One of those valves you show would be nice, but everyone seems to want a fortune for the used ones they want to sell on ebay. Thanks for the input.

Use quick disconnect hoses between the plate and the loader valve, and reverse the gender on the two hoses for two reasons:

1. you won't ever be able to confuse which hose goes where.

2. You need to loop the two hoses from the adapter pate to each other when the loader isn't connected or the 3 point won't work and you will be dead heading the pump.

Shouldn't have to worry about that as the valve I am using is open center and the adapter plate has pressure out and return in, if I understand it right.

As long as you never intend to remove the loader from the tractor, you are correct.

But if you ever need to run the tractor when the loader is removed then you need something to loop the two ports on the plate to each other.

I am not using a loader, just a hoist I build for the 3-point. It has a single acting cylinder and the valve stays on the tractor. Just a quick disconnect to the cylinder.

Sorry for my confusion. As long as the open center control valve stays connected to the adapter plate then it's all good.

When I first started looking at these adapter plates, I was a little confused. I finally found some instructions for them and figured out how they worked. A lot of sites that sell them don't tell you much about them. Thank you all for your information. Now I just need to order some fittings and such to put it all together.

Finally got this all together. Used the manual diverter vales. One way cycles the fluid out of the adapter plate and back in the plate. Other position runs the fluid through my control valve to the hoist cylinder and open center return to a fitting in the filler cap. Each lift is now independent of the other. Three point will stay where I leave it and the hoist will stay where I leave it. Works perfectly. Will try to put up some pictures of it all tomorrow. This is the hoist that is now hooked up on the 651. This Jubilee now has my minie-backhoe and soon my 703 front end loader going on it. The Jubilee will be a dedicated Tractor Loader Backhoe.

I have much more control with this hoist. It will go lower and lift higher than a boom pole. Plus I still can raise and lower the three point while the hoist holds position. Helps when picking things off a flatbed truck.

Looks good. I'm interested in how the hoist mounts to the tractor. Do you have any pictures of that? Is it a tow behind, or is it mounted to the rear axle somehow? You mentioned that the 3 point arms can lift independently so I assume that the hoist isn't mounted to those.

Sorry for the confusion. It is attached to the three point. If I need some extra lift, I can raise the three point. Both the three point and the hoist will stay wherever they are left.

I have picked up a complete small block Chevy engine with it with no problem at all. A little over 500 pounds I would say. Used it to swap the engine in my GMC 3500 truck. Picked up lots of smaller things. It is very handy. Thinking about putting a longer cylinder that I have on it to increase the lift even more so I don't have to raise the three point. I like keeping it as low to the ground as I can. The longer cylinder is also larger bore. I wish I still had the use of this lift I built on my Case 930. Engine died on the Case and I am not sure I want to put the money into it to rebuild it.
