841 hesitating

My 841 hesitates when I throttle up. I replaced the plugs with AL 437 new cap, rotor points and condenser and wires coil. Rebuilt the carburetor
and went through it a few times checking all the ports and float. The float does have a small dent but no holes. Compression is good Dry 115
120 130 130 Wet 120 125 140 145 . The valve sound a little noises . I was just out in the barn and found the timing to be set at 8 BTDC and
there was a white mark at 8 so I retimed it to 4. Sounds great starts right up but still coughs when I throttle up. I also disconnected the throttle
and governor linkage and moved the throttle butterfly by hand and the governor does move. I haven?t had a chance to take it out and see if
stalls under load pouring rain and I am sick as a dog. . It came with a new Zenith on the tractor but i never ran it with it on to many leaks. It also
came with the original MS so I rebuilt it next step is to switch carburetors. I will take all the help I can get. Thanks in advance
 
Misfire upon acceleration (fully up to temperature) often signals a lean mixture. Try turning the mixture screw out 1/2 turn or so.

Of course, one should never look to carburetion until one is certain that the ignition is spot on.

Back fire is generally due to three things:

(1) Crossfire in cap due to moisture, or wrong firing order.
(2) Lean air/fuel due to inadequate fuel flow, air leak, or improperly adjusted carb.
(3) Points closed up or worn distributor bushings. Be sure to measure point gap on all four lobes.

Failed timing gear can cause similar problems but your compression tested great.

There are quite a few posts regarding run issues with repopped carbs so you may save yourself grief with a professional rebuild of the OEM carb.

Wireing is all correct . I will check all of the lobes
and advance. I been sick all week and read all of
the archives . Feeling a little better so I might put
the new Zenith carb that came with the tractor on
today . Thanks
 

Clam digger, I can see that your 841 is giving you a lot of trouble. Before it completely ruins your quality of life, why don't you let me take it off your hands for say, 10% over what you paid for it?
 
That's a good suggestion and I will put you on the
list. It man versus machine if I throw in the white
flag I'll get in touch with you . I've been retired for
five months and this beats going to work any day.

That's me. A sickness.
 
Just got in from playing with it. First time outside in a few days. I took it out for a little ride and it's a little better but still dies under load. I though about checking for leaks in the intake I will used my torch with just the gas on and see if it revs up then take out distributor and see how the advance is but I couldn't stay out to long coughing too much
 
Try 1/2 choke when you throttle up. If symptom is absent adjust idle and main jet mixtures on the carb. I did see one where only 2 cylinders were firing; every other was fouled out. Obviously low power; but the exhaust note was even and the governor made up the adjustment.
