Been so cold I just worked in my woodshop for the last two weeks, then 62F today, so one more shot at this dead 860 mystery. Plugs leads good and in the correct order, new points, coil, condenser, rotor. Checked compression and it was good. Cleaned the carb one more time and gas flow was good. Charged battery. Still no life GRRR!!
So, last resort, I just took off the new coil and put the old Pertronix coil back on and...........it burst into life!
So what must have happened is that I originally had a carb problem, but thought it was ignition, and put a new coil on it that was a dud, cleaned the carb, so now I had gas but a no spark.
So we're good to go.
THANK you each for your ideas about this problem - I have been on YT for 20 years and you guys are always a wonderful source for solutions.
