860 STILL won't fire Saga - it was a BAD NEW COIL!

Been so cold I just worked in my woodshop for the last two weeks, then 62F today, so one more shot at this dead 860 mystery. Plugs leads good and in the correct order, new points, coil, condenser, rotor. Checked compression and it was good. Cleaned the carb one more time and gas flow was good. Charged battery. Still no life GRRR!!
So, last resort, I just took off the new coil and put the old Pertronix coil back on and...........it burst into life!
So what must have happened is that I originally had a carb problem, but thought it was ignition, and put a new coil on it that was a dud, cleaned the carb, so now I had gas but a no spark.
So we're good to go.
THANK you each for your ideas about this problem - I have been on YT for 20 years and you guys are always a wonderful source for solutions.

The problem is its a very rare few that know how to eliminate each system... The first problem was folks believed your diagnosis they did not question it... Even if it were questioned you would have just passed it over because you and your help believed your shad-tree diagnostics...

Your next step should be to throw that gaped open no good spark plug you used to test spark as far as you can.. Invest in a adjustable spake tester and a in-line spark tester with a light... Learn how to use them both are buy a diesel...

"Good spark is a quarter inch strong white spark on a plug, opened to quarter inch and grounded to the body. "

Sorry to be the grammar police, but these types of mistakes are a pet peeve of mine. It should be:
