3000 spark plug problem

When I bought this 3000 it had quite a mess w/the plug wires - one insulated w/duct tape - so I ordered a complete tune up kit from this site. Now it runs great most of the time but I can't keep the plug boots down on the plugs. I push them on, twist them on, hold them on for a while, whatever else I can think to try, but they slowly raise up & pop loose, sometimes immediately, sometimes a day later. Is there supposed to be some kind of clip or something that keeps them from popping loose?

Hi. When I put new plug wires on mine
it did the same thing. Use a pair of
needle nose pliers and pull the wire
out of the boot a little. Secure the
wire on the plug then work the boot
down snug on the head.

Even if they're in tight you can get gasses bypassing the plug if they are cheap plugs. I have seen brand new Chinese made plugs that have a hole the length of the ceramic insulator next to the electrode core so you can blow on one end and air comes out the other end. Guy at the parts store said that they had been seeing a bunch like that getting returned lately. It almost looks like they drilled two holes through the insulator because the first one wasn't centered.
 
Thanks guys! Fordfarmer, I rechecked the plugs & they're tight. The boots have been popping off even when the tractor was not running!
John, I tried your suggestion & it feels like that might work! At least they have stayed on all afternoon (I haven't started the tractor though). I had thought about pulling there but was afraid I would pull the clip off the wire. Time will tell!

I do not think the clip is snapping on the plug, as suggested, slide it down the boot make sure it snaps, then slide boot back down
 
2000 Ford 3 cyl. gas; 4/1....I'm having the same problem with a new set of plug wires. Have tried pulling the wire clip down further in the rubber boot but am afraid to pull too hard because the clip may detach from the wire. It appears that the problem is the 'hat brim' of the boot hangs on the sleeve at each plug preventing the boot from going any further into the sleeve. If I can't get the clip further down am gonna put the boot on my belt sander and remove enough so the wire will clip onto the plug. Most frustrating to get a product (this is the second set with this problem) that doesn't work like it should.
 
Took the tractor out for a short time today & the plug boots stayed on! It took very little pulling on the clip to make it work.
