water in transmission

Hay guys what s the best way to get water out of a trans. I changed oil 2 times and still get foaming in the oil. My tractor is a 1963 4130 with a 4 speed trans. Would there be some pockets in there that would hold water? Any help would be great. Thanks Bill

If you let it sit for a couple of weeks in a warm space the water should settle to the bottom and should be the first thing to drain when you open the drain plug.

If you have completely drained and filled the transmission several times and it is foaming, then it probably isn't water. Possible contamination from the hydraulic lines running through the bottom of the transmission as David G has said. What kind of hydraulic fluid are you running for the 3 point? If it doesn't have EP additives then it could foam in the transmission.

I got Rotella HD Hydraulic oil for the 3 point and Traveller sae 80w-90 gear lub in the trans. I don't see any sign of the two mixing together

you need to get the water out of the sump, and oil is not a great way to carry water as it can only carry what is emuldified at
the time.

dump in a couple quarts of diesel into the trans, then a quart of atf fluid, and then a couple pints of 90% rubbing alcohol, (
denatured will work as well ).

Then give her a few victory laps around the yard at a good clip.

Drain her warm.

Water is polar, alcohol is a polar solvent and will dissolve water and carry it in soloution. Diesel fuel will thin the oil
mix to help it flow out and drain better and help soften any hard emulsified water/oil. The ATF has detergents in it to help
carry debris out in suspension.

Once you refill the trans, dump in a can of seafoam transtune. Any incedental water you miss should get disolved before it
emulsifies. ( if no seafoam transtune around, just mix 8oz of denat alcohol and 8oz of mineral spirits )

I did what you said with the diesel, atf, and alcohol and ran it around. When I drained it there was no foaming at all. I can't get more oil just yet but when I do I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks a lot for your help. Bill

Thanks guys. After cleaning the trans and new oil put in there is no more foaming and all is well. Thanks to SOUnd guy for your help. This site is what a new guy needs for sure.
