Ford 3000 and 2000 transmission rear end swap

I have a 1969 ford 3000 diesel tractor C1012A with a 4 speed transmission without drawbar and non live pto. Its geared too fast for most things I use it for. I bought another 1972 Ford 2000 gas tractor B1022B with 8 speed with power steering with a 730 ford loader as a project tractor. I am using the 730 loader for another 1966 ford 3000 diesel I have. I am wanting to swap the gas tractor rear ends/transmission with my 1969 Ford 3000 diesel. Will this work? I split the tractors this weekend and noticed some differences in the clutches, hydraulic pumps, rear top link mounts and input shafts on transmissions. I ran model numbers on the tractor with the loader I just bought and looks like the 8 speed is also a non live pto and a 1972 Ford 2000 B1022B I wish it was like my 1966 Ford 3000 that has a 8 speed with live pto. Would you take the flywheel/ clutch off of gas tractor and put on diesel tractor and top hydraulic plate? Would there be a difference in gpm in hydraulic pumps? Thanks

Gas flywheel has a different starter ring than diesel model.
Both have a 11" clutch so it would be simpler to swap the clutches to get the correct splines needed. Better yet while it's apart install a new clutch.

Check the hyd piping to make sure everything will swap if you want to use your old pump, don't think there any difference in gpm flows.

Some of the 2000's have the top link spring exposed, 3000's are covered, since your fixing a 3000 I'd probably use the 3000's lift top.

OK I will get a new clutch, swap the flywheels and replace the rear main seal in diesel tractor there is a little oil on back of engine also switch the top links. What about the 3 point lift draft control on side of transmission? One tractor has it the other has a blank round cap. Also bolsters on front axle are different? I bought an auburn 7' 4 way dozer blade for the front awhile back and would like to put on tractor when the swap is done. Thanks

As I said in my first post the starter rings on the flywheels are different between gas engine and diesels.
If you put the gas engines flywheel on the diesel engine the diesel starter won't work and the gas starter isn't strong enough to start the diesel.
One can swap the starter rings but it's a bunch of unnecessary work if both have the same style single disc clutch.
Ether swap just the clutch disc and pressure plate or get a new clutch and plate with the correct splines for the transmission your going to use.

It's a good time to replace the core plugs (freeze plugs) in the back of the block and head while the engines off.

The adjustable knob on the side is the flow control valve.
You can swap it if you want but I can tell you I made sure my 4000 was set at full flow 27 years ago and haven't touched it since.
Same for my other tractors as they where acquired.

Draft control is the little flip lever in the side of the lift top, i don't plow any more so all are flipped up to position control.

The later bolster is supposed to be stronger but you'll need to check the mounting holes with the blade you have to see what it will fit.
My 4000SU and MIL's 3000 are both 72 models with the later bolster, I've never mounted anything to the front of mine.

They changed the radius arms some time around 1970, to use the power steering you have to use it radius arms and all front axle parts that go with it.
Radius arms connected to the center axle on early models and to the adjustable spindle drops on later models.

I went out to measure for the clutch I ran into a problem the bolt pattern on the gas tractor clutch pressure plate bolting to flywheel is 3 1/2" between the bolts on triangle pressure plate with the 8 speed transmission having 10 splines. The diesel 4 speed tractor has 15 splines and has a rounder pressure plate with a bolt pattern of 4 3/4" between bolts that bolt flywheel to pressure plate.

Simple. Keep the flywheel, clutch and hydraulic pump with the transmission and rear axle it was born with. Replace what needs replacing. Keep the starter ring gear with the starter it was born with. Change the core plugs, release and pilot bearings, and rear main seal.

Just an FYI - B1022B should have a 6 speed transmission, not an 8 speed. They are both double stick transmissions with the secondary stick being the high/low range shifter. The only difference is the 6 speed only has 3 forward speeds on the main shifter and the 8 speed has 4.

Ok thank you I will buy the correct 11" clutch disk with the correct 10 splines and use with the pressure plate that's already there. How hard is it t change ring gear on flywheel? thanks

I have a clutch builder not far from me, I'd tell him I needed a clutch and plate like in the bottom photo only with a 10 spline hub and he'd fix me up.

they don't list a clutch kit on this site for the older style pressure plate with a 10 spline disc but they do sell both pieces.

At the top of the page click on Tractor Parts, select Ford & NH, select 4000 (not sure why the plate doesn't show in the 3000 section), select clutch, scroll down to the 8th disc, part # 328015716 - $62.03
Scroll down to the pressure plates, part # C5NN7563Z - $162.71
Pilot bearing # C5NN7600A - $1.97
Release Bearing # N1087 - $12.33

That will fix you up with the parts you need to put a 10 spline clutch on your diesel engine, which will mate up to the 2000's 8 spd trans
