model 4110 TR pedestal dust seal

This is the first time I've been into one of these pedestal boxes. Would anyone know where I could get the dust seal that goes on the bottom of the pinion. Will I just have to cut one out of felt? I have no idea how thick the felt should be. Any suggestions? It seems like a weird setup on the bottom end. On a side note, someone told Bob Crane that old lie that every man has a price. He replied no, there's a price for every thing a man has. I never forgot that, cant remember where i heard it.

Why would it need a dust seal under the pinion? If dust could get in from the bottom then all of the oil would leak out the bottom. There is a seal below the pinion, part number 310113, but it's an oil seal, not a dust seal.

You have to see the CNH partstore for part #NCB 3215A seal on a 950 with the tricycle duals. I have the 4000 with the wide front but it only shows the top seal. The giant tapered bearing on the bottom isnt in oil, you just slobber it with grease. When i took it apart today there is something that is at the very bottom, it was in pieces full of grease. I believe it is something like the sector shaft felts on an all purpose. I have a big piece of floorboard felt that I think I will use. I think it keeps water and dust out of that bottom huge bearing. I thought it should be in oil too, thats why I said it was a little weird.

They changed the front pedestal design when they went from the 900 series to the 901 series. The 4000 is the same as the 901 series, not the 900 series. The parts drawings for the 901 and 4000 do not show any dust seal down there, but the parts site drawings have been known to be inaccurate in more recent years. I personally haven't been inside one either. Hopefully someone with an older parts book might come along and tell you if their older drawings show a dust seal.

The Ford site shows a dust seal for a 950. Mine had some sort of fiber material that was saturated with grease but it doesnt show the dust seal for a 4000 rowcrop.
