801 4 speed, change trans or change gears?

Bought this Tractor with bad trans. I have
two spare transmissions one is out the other
is in this parts tractor. The spare that is
already out is coarse spline. The one in the
parts tractor is fine spline like I need.
My question is would it be quicker and
easier swap the top shafts and gears out of
the two transmissions that are already out?
Rather than splitting the parts tractor.
What would you do?

Full component replacement will be less time consuming than changing out individual parts.

Like Vito sez, the 5-speed is more versatile if that is an option.

As long as your parts tractor has the correct input shaft and output shaft splines,at the rear of the trans to the main drive coupler and are all for X01 model because of brake configuration I would Split the parts tractor and make the switch. Pop the top cover and check for gear wear, broken teeth before doing so.
Input shaft was changed at #14256 and output at rear to main coupler about 58,000 if it will help.

Thanks guys, if I was going to keep it I would find a five speed for it. I have the gaskets and seals but not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'll post what I did tonight.
