I haven't got my service manual yet so I'll just ask you guys. What oil do I use in the rear diff trans and hyd on a 641 ford? I am aware theyre separate.

134 D or the current equivalent(I forget the current nomenclature of this oil) that meets the Ford spec. It can be used in all 3 compartments. Heavier oil can be used in the differential and transmission compartments, but the concern is if seals leak between them the heavier oil ie; 90 wt can migrate to the hydraulic compartment and contaminate it, causing problems with the tractor hydraulics. There was a technical bulletin by Ford a long time ago about this, recommending the use of their 134... oil in all 3 components.

Originally, they called for gear oil in the transmission
and rear end, and hydraulic oil (134D, in today's
standards) in the hydraulic sump. However. ... after
all these years, the seals between the
compartments often leak, so the current
recommendation is to use 134d-compatible oil in all
three sumps. The hydraulic system does not like
gear oil.

The original hydraulic oils that were available when the tractor was new did not have the additives that modern UTF fluids have, and some hydraulic fluids on the market that are sold as just hydraulic fluid do not have the additives either, which are needed for the Extreme Pressure (EP) conditions between the mating surfaces of the gear teeth both in the transmission and the differential, so do not use any old hydraulic fluid. Make sure that it says on the label that it meets or exceed the Ford/New Holland M2C134D specification.
