Fordson major diesel

Hi Not all fordson major diesels are the same. If you have a major/ power/ or some of the very early super majors, that has the pump with 2 steel
lines that run from a housing on the drive end of the pump up to the intake manifold where the throttle linkage connects. Technically they don't
have oil in, They are the vacuum governed pumps lubricated by diesel.

For cold climates like here in Canada, they did however drill the pump side cover plate and fit an oil pot. My local pump shop told me it was
because the winter fuel had no lubrication in, and the cam would wear. by adding the oil it helped save the pump from early wear. I never saw
tractors from other country's with warmer winter climates have this done, and it confuses some guys on forums in other countrys where it wasn't
common .

The later super majors had a mechanical governor pump( no lines to air intake manifold ) and the throttle control lever is connected to an arm on
the back of the pump. Those pumps are the same as the 8000 style and take oil, to lubricate the internal cam and govenor mechanism. Most of them I
get here the drain pipe is missing or plugged, and the pumps oil has been diluted and the pump is full of fuel and gunk that's been there 30 years, the other pump has the same pipe to drain the excess fuel out to. on both pumps they may drip fuel out while running. .

just make sure the drain pipe and banjo bolts clear, drain it from the bottom plug, and re fill with oil upto the second plug about 1 inch or so up
the pump side. The fill is that big nut on the top of the govenor housing. I never did an 8000 type so don't know if they are the same.
Any more questions just ask but ill be away from christmas eve until later boxing day if the bad weather lets me out of here . Regards Robert
