I've never been around one.
Looks like they replaced the 2600?
Boy that double reduction rear seems heavy for a 34 hp tractor. Any idea how big of an engine they put in front of that axle?
201?
Was the rear center housing a whole new casting? I wonder how much in the rear end, if anything, would interchange with a 4600. 3000 engine would still probably fit I'd guess.
Those wet brakes would sure put the dry brakes to shame.
Just wondering aloud about them I guess.
Anyone here have one?

It uses the same transmission and rear end as a 3910/4610SU. They are pitiful weak. Ive bought and re sold a few of them, but other than pulling a hay rake or a 5 ft finish mower, they don't seem strong enough to get out of their own way.

I think.... IIRC, the rear end and transmission would be the same as the 3910 and 4610, more or less. I don't recall if all 4610 housings had the sockets for the radius arms... and a change in transmission output ratios would achieve the different requirements for various tire sizes. All 3 cylinder chassis double reduction rears would be the same other than possibly the plate count in the PTO clutch.

Best I can tell Ford went to that because of wet brakes and independent pto, both are big advantage and there's really no disadvantage, heavier 3pt lift too, only weighs a few hundred lbs more so it's not a huge deal, and rarely is weight at the rear wheels of a tractor a disadvantage.

2000, 2600, 2610 gas and 2810 all had 158 ci engines
2610 diesel and 2910 had 175 ci engines

2810 was the first model to have 158 engine and planetary axle with wet brakes.

Thanks fellas.
I heard about a junker and wondered about them.
I actually thought about "upgrading" my 3000 with the back half. I would love to have the wet brakes but not sure about the Independent pto.
Get a rock under the brush mower and you gotta remember to hit the pto handle. With live you just stomp on the clutch and shut everything down. I suppose you'd get used to it.
A couple other things I don't like about independent is the wind down on the brush mower would wear out the pto brake in very short order.
And, the older ones hammer the driveline/mower so hard when you engage it. I think I've read they softened the engage on later models but dont know if they had it on a 10 Series.
If I swapped out the rear half on my 3000 there would be the search to find the right centers that would fit my rims too.

I always turn the pto on, and off at just above an idle..

This removes the shock to the drive line and to the pto brake. By having just above an idle, i also have the "low side" hydraulic pressure up to max for engaging the pto clutch.

I see a lot of folks engage at full speed and it really makes a [b:685bcb6535]BANG!![/b:685bcb6535]! on the equipment... Especially something with a lot of shafts and parts, like a round baler, or mowco.

I've use ind pto so long that when I use my MIL's 3000 I've forgotten how to use the 2 stage clutch, stomp the pedal and everything stops.

Mine engage the pto pretty hard, I've learned to engage at idle or as low of a rpm as possible, also I'll feather the pto by engaging and disengaging it a few times as the piece of equipment comes up to speed.

When shutting the pto down I idle the engine down first then flip the pto lever off, sometimes you just have to shut them down but I idle back whenever possible.
Replaced the brake pad in my 69 4000 17 years ago and it's still holding, the 72 model 4000SU has the original brake pad but the pto will roll a little on cold startup.

5000 and larger had soft engage, my 6610 has it, not sure when or if they put soft engage on the smaller chassis.
If they did I've got a complete 3930 pto valve and clutch system that will get swapped into my 4000.

4000SU, 4600SU are about the only centers that might fit your wheels but you can use the complete assemblies off of a 10 or 30 series

If you have the 5 rail power adjust, they used the same C9NN1050U rim from 70 till the end of the 30 series, same C9NN1036M center from 70 till 90.

Can't find any info of them ever offering a large bolt center for the older -00 series style power adjust.
If that's what you have your probably sol.
