Ford 861D clutch

If the clutch builder is reputable, all of their reman double clutches will be preset.

I can't tell you where the best place is for you to purchase one. I don't know your location. I know I had one rebuilt for my uncle several years ago for roughly $160.00. It was job well done. If you're close to me, I'll tell you where to take yours.

That is a good idea I did not think to have it rebuilt. I live in
middle TN is that anywhere close to you?

I have my tractor split apart but do not know what the release bearing end should look like. In pictures I see 2 release springs on each side of the release bearing and mine has none. Also, my release bearing is not even sitting in the release fork and should it be sitting in some kind of hub? I also do not see a place to even anchor springs back at the transmission if it did have them. Does anyone know what that end of an 861D should look like? Thanks

I find it interesting that Ford does not show the clutch throw out assembly in either parts or service manuals for the 5 speed, at least I'm not finding it. They do, however, show it with the 4 speed.

Assuming that the 5 speed throw out assembly has to be fairly identical to the 4 speed, it appears there should be two return springs, one on either side of your throw out hub. There should be a spring anchor bolted to the lower side of your transmission input shaft housing with the same bolts that retain that housing.

The throw out hub should fit snuggly to the input shaft housing, but not snuggly enough to prevent easy movement along the neck of that housing. The bearing itself should be a light press fit onto that hub. The forks on the clutch shaft should come against the back of that hub, but be free to fall backwards away from it just a bit.

I could see everything for the 4 speed but not the 5 speed like
you said it had me confused. Thanks for the help that helps
me a lot.

Someone has had to have been in this tractor before and did
not put it back correctly. There were absolutely no release
springs and no were to anchor them to back at the trans input
shaft. Would you know where I can see what the clips the
springs anchor to look like, maybe I can make some. Unless
they hook around the arms of the release fork, but I don?t think
so. Both clips on the release bearing hub where broke off
laying in the bottom of the case but no springs.

Sorry! Unless someone else knows, I'd go by the 4 speed parts diagram or the photo of the 4 speed in the Ford service manual. If you have a New Holland dealer close by that you can work with, that would be another option.

I am not sure I understand what you're asking exactly, but here are a few pictures from a 9XX that I believe is the same clutch/release bearing/carrier as yours, maybe they will help -

Thank you that does help. I do not see them in these pictures
either. I will keep digging. In the diagram for a 4 speed it
show 2 release springs running on each side of the release
bearing. The springs connect to the release hub up by the
bearing but I have no were to connect the other end. Since I
do not see them in your pictures I may net need them for
soem rason. Thanks again.

My 961 is just like Pomester's. No spring anchor on the transmission wall.

Well dang! It's been long enough since I've been in a double clutch or any 5 speed for that matter, I'd have never guessed. Thanks for the pictures!

The only return spring,, is the one on the shaft shown in the picture. this spring does all the work, so be sure you have it on, if not the other style.

Here is a few more pics if they help.

The throw out bearing with the two springs fits the 4 speed. The 5 speed uses a spring on the shaft as in the pics.

The clutch pic is a Tisco clutch. When I looked several years ago it was the only new clutch I could find. Available from all the usual sellers and on YT. You can get a kit with the TO and pilot bearing.
