What's your Ford been doing?

Some of the tractors are already packed away for the winter, my favorite is still getting used daily though. ;). Pulling some small logs around for the little cabin project.

What have you guys been doing with your Ford's?

Pick one! LOL

This one's getting an engine transplant, different tires/rims, new
brakes, radiator, front axle pin, carb rebuilt, ROPS removed etc.

7112.jpg

The Jubilee loader tractor is working hard as always.
Here, removing the afore mentioned ROPS.

7115.jpg

The 8N is getting the original engine rebuilt and a "restoration".

7113.jpg

The 3000 with the cab has a recently added snowblower that I just
put new bearings in. It was a nice weekend to do that outdoors.

7114.jpg

Not much, except a friend from church came over last Fri and drove the 960 and 640 around the yard a while. He had never been on a NF and loved it. He also drove the cub and said he had never been on an offset. This is the guy who is looking for a 961D wf. Now he thinks gas is ok. As is NF. Good test drive!!

6610 hasn't done anything since we finished clipping weeds in pastures, need to unhook the brush hog and put it away
5000 has the hay spear on for feeding cows.
4000's hooked to the grinder mixer.
4000SU's still waiting in line to go in the shop to replace the broken crank.
4500's also in line for the shop, bearing making noise in the trans.
881's just setting around, may put the grader box on it tomorrow to level the bedding in the poultry barns, new birds coming in next week.

Got a neighbors 5030 in the shop replacing the clutch, should be done tomorrow.
Our Dodge Dakota blew a head gasket so I guess it'll go in before the 4000SU.

My 4500 TLB is slowly going back together, got the bushings on the front axle, and axle support, it can roll on it's own four wheels again.

7117.jpg

My 971D gets used a lot. Raking, baling, and most recently spreading some lime. It was great to go out at 40 degrees and have it fire right up. I had problems starting it for years. A few years ago I sent the pump out to a guy who charged a third of the going rate to rehab it, just to have it come back the same. This spring I took it to the local shop. It cost me $717.00 but it was worth every penny. It starts right up every time, cold or hot, and has a lot more power. It was worth every dime to get it done right.

Just sitting and running when needed. The 2000D is a '63 with about 3800 hours, I bought back in the late 80's, proofmeter intact and working, no wrenches on engine. The '65 3000D has close to 6000 hrs, I did an inframe when I bought it back in the ebarly 1990's...PO had removed air inlet hose to intake manifold. Tops worn out, bottoms were ok. No big repairs, lift cylinder kits and things like gens, starters and water pumps over the years.

The 1954 Ford NAA is sitting in the barn waiting on next spring most likely. Don't have much work for it until it's time for it to rake hay and move equipment around. May get a paint job this winter, haven't decided yet.

I've never seen a snowblower impellor oriented the way yours is. Will be interesting to see how it works with the impellor situated like that.

My 860 and 6.5 foot wide rear snowblower will be "retired" this winter from active duty due to my recent purchase of a used Kubota B3030 with heated cab and front snowblower. Sorry, no pictures of either until I find a replacement for Photobucket.

I haven't either. I just got it last summer. I call it my Blizzard Insurance, so I hope it is some time before I find out how it works!

My poor little tractor sits in in the cold behind the house. It was in a snug shed up at my property all summer but I brought it home last weekend for snow duty and now it is shivering in the cold. I had planned on getting the tire chains on thus week but haven't had time. Guess I'll wait till it's about 16 degrees and snow up to my rear end to put them on. The 8' back blade is attached.

Time to build a new shed Jerry?
Sounds like a fun project...for next summer. ;)

I'll head up your way sometime soon with
the pump. Didn't end up going up there
when I thought I'd be. Sorry it's taking
so long.

No worries, nothing urgent at all.
Too many other irons in the fire to let that one get in the way. :)

Ultradog... you should at least throw a trash bag over the seat so you won't be sitting on a soaked piece of foam (or a block of ice) when you're plowing.

(quoted from post at 10:34:57 12/07/17) My 6610 needs to get back blade, chains and heat houser put on this weekend.
ine are just sitting in the sheds oiling the sand, as it is below 50F here....too cold out there for me!

Used the 4000 with box blade to level out bedding in the poultry barns last night, then hooked the 881 to a chain harrow to smooth out the ridges. I'll use the 5000 to put out round bales today.
Still haven't unhooked the 6610 from the batwing mower, may try to do that also but need to get the !@#!# loader frame back on the neighbors 5030 so he can take it home.

I do a lot of I guess what you would call yard work with my dad's. It's currently on loan to me. It's going back this weekend though after I use it to brush hog the back pasture at my place.

I used it two clear to sections on two lots I own. One had an abandoned trailer home with all kinds of garbage, limbs, leaves, etc. I used the blade to drag and push and pull everything into two large piles. Then used the scoop to pick it up and hold it up in the air so I could shovel it into my truck bed.

I have a single bottom plow I set kind of shallow and turn over dirt and use the blade to grade it to fix drainage. Same with disc. I'll disc an area that is uneven and then blade it at an angle or however to fix drainage. I also use the plow to dig out ditches. A lot of fixing drainage and discing dirt that was covered for years to allow grass to grow and catch water.

I also use the scoop to load, pick up, and haul rocks and wood to put it all in one spot

Basically general yard work, grading, and toting.

4000 got a rebuilt power steering pump. ..

7266.jpg

Now put away in new shipping container. .

2000 got pie weights and ROPS,
7268.jpg

makoman, I just had to cut a ROPS like that off my 3000.
If yours mounts like mine did, there are heavy plates under the rear axle.
The bolts went up through that plate and threaded into the heavy bottom of the roll bar.

The smooth, unthreaded part of the bolts rusted into that plate.
They are rusted so badly that even now that I have cut them off
and removed the roll bar, what's left of the unthreaded bolt
will not turn in those plates. I haven't tried the threaded end.
Some anti-seize may have helped a lot when it was installed.

I built a counter weight for the front of the 4000 SU. It was cheap and easy. Once I mounted it and gave it a test run. I took it off and cleaned the metal up and painted it. Will mount again in the spring.

I fixed the fuel leak and an oil leak but still need to do the pto seal.

Wow, that must of really been rusted if they would not spin in the bottom plate, thats not even threaded. Mine were in pretty good shape. Why didn't you just leave them on?

Why didn't you just leave them on?
My uncle wants to buy it and it won't fit in his garage with the taller tires and the roll bar.
Our land is pretty flat, so they're not needed as much as in other areas.

What are you hanging off the back that you need so much on the front?

My 4500 TLB is slowly going back together, got the bushings on the front axle, and axle support, it can roll on it's own four wheels again.

PT - that 4500 is looking great - they are a solid package - it almost seems a shame to encumber it with a loader and backhoe

4000SU's still waiting in line to go in the shop to replace the broken crank.

I've been looking at 4000SU's recently - actually inquired about one, but missed the sale - they seem like a very good package for the 3 cylinder series as long as they are not asked for loader duty -

I used one of the 960's recently to spread straw on the strawberry patch - picture is from a few seasons ago, much more pleasant conditions this year, about as painless as the job ever can be -

7290.jpg

I used the 961 to beat around the hay field pulling a culta-cutter, knocking down saplings and multiflora rose as they try to invade the field - no pictures, I should probably take a couple of the machine, it dates from the 1950's and there's not many of them around -

used the other 960 to mow the fruit plantings - it lives attached to the mower -

it's now winter, no temperatures above freezing forecast for a few days with significant snow forecast for this saturday - tractors are under the shed which I cleaned up last weekend - not 'snug', but protected from weather unless it blows in from the east -

4000SU is a really nice package, compact and maneuverable like the 2-3000, but has plenty of hp, ind pto and the good wet disc brakes of a 4000. The larger planetary rear axle makes it feel more stable than the lighter 2-3000, probably because it adds around 200 lbs to the rear axle weight.
It is a little slower due to the gearing, has the same gears with 28" rear tires as the 4000 with 30" tires.

the one I inquired about had 24" tires I believe - cast centers, no spin-out rims, looks like the 24" combos that I have on the 4500 - here's another one with the same centers/rims

https://centralmich.craigslist.org/grd/d/ford-4000-su-special-utility/6377755078.html

the one I missed was similar, about the same price, had good ag tires, and was quite a bit closer to me -

if I'd had a good year I might have popped for this one even with the turf tires, but there's not much spare change to play tractor this year

It's been a little trial and error. Things are a bit hilly around me, so everything from the 6ft tiller to my untility box makes the front light on the hills.

I first tried just 80 lbs concrete behind the bumper. The bigger block is about 180 lbs. I think I might remove the 80 lbs but not sure yet.

It not uncommon to see a set up like this around here. I was looking to do a weight bracket but it was just to pricey.

7296.jpg

Ag tires will hit you for $12-1500 mounted for that tractor so that's getting the total cost up a little high for a gas model here, but gas models may be worth more up north in your area.

Most any 4000SU seen around here had 14.9-28 rears but they also came with 16.9-24's, I think the 28" rims where more popular. Although it was a odd wheel center back then it's the same type wheels as used on later model 3910, 3930 tractors, so used tires and wheels is a option from a salvage yard.
I think Tractor Data go it wrong again saying 7.50-16 was the front tire size. That's the correct size for my 4000 but all SU's I've seen had lower profile 7.5L15 fronts or the narrower 6.50-16.

450,
Just another case of Ford's "use what ya got"!
Farm I worked on "back in the day" had 5 4000SU tractors, and 1 or 2 came new with 7.50 x 16 tires. The 4600SU's & 4610SU's often came with the 7.50 x 16's as well.
Sorta like the 5 series tractors, some came with 7.50 x 16's, and some with 7.50 x 18's

My SU has 7.5x16

And a 4000su brochure I found on ntractorclucb says they came standard with 7.2 x16
