Can someone explain to me the pto system om my tractor. I thought I was changing the hydraulic filter for the hydraulic system when I changed the filter on left side of tractor (manual says filter for transmission pto). The other day I noticed another filter under foot rest below clutch peddle. Manual says this is ipto filter. Can somebody explain this to me why I have both. New to me tractor and trying to change fluids and filters. Thanks Greg

Sounds like your's has the optional dual pump hydraulic system.
There's one pump on the left side of the engine and another pump mounted in the right side axle center housing. The filter under the left step is for the center housing pump which is the pump that supplies oil to the pto. Both pumps supply oil for the lift and hydraulics.
The filter adapter has a check valve built in so that you can remove the lower filter without draining the hydraulic oil from the axle housing.

It a very desirable system that supplies enough volume to operate a loader without needing a front mounted pump.

I'm not that familiar with those later models, but I thought that the 3910 always had independent PTO, but I just looked and the parts site says it could have either independent or live PTO. The drawings show that it always had the double reduction rear end so by all rights it should always have independent PTO, right? I wonder why it says that it could have had either style PTO?

That's the same time frame that they made the 3610 and 3910.
3610 still used the smaller 3000 style rear axle, brakes and live pto.
3910 was when they changed to the 4000's bigger rear axle with wet brakes and ind pto.
Parts list is a little confusing was it has both models listed together.

live vs ipto? please expain difference, to a ignorant new owner. Lol. Ipto has nothing to do with clutch peddle. Correct? pto spins without regard to clutch? Yes?

Yes, you've got it.

Independent PTO - PTO is driven when the engine is running and the control handle is engaged regardless of the status of the clutch.

Live PTO - PTO is driven off of a second clutch. PTO is powered when the engine is running , the handle is engaged, and the clutch pedal is at least half way up from the fully depressed position.

Transmission driven (Non-Live) PTO - PTO is driven by the same clutch that drives the transmission, so the PTO only gets power when the engine is running, the handle is engaged and the clutch pedal is in the fully released position. The transmission can be in gear or in neutral, but the clutch pedal needs to be fully out.

Without going and looking.... I would speculate that there may be a narrow or orchard version of the 3910 which is probably based on the 3610
chassis... so it may have single reduction axles and live PTO. Otherwise, nominally... a '3910' in it's utility form will always have double
reduction axles and wet PTO.
