1975 ford 3400 power steering

I have a 1975 ford 3400 and having issues with the power steering fluid coming out of the top of the steering column near the steering wheel after running for about 5 mins even after I replaced the o ring and seal that goes on the shaft, what causes this and how can I fix this? Thanks

At the bottom of the steering tube there should be a brass bushing. If that bushing has worked its way loose you will get those symptoms. When you took it apart to replace the seal and o-ring you may have not noticed it when it fell out.

Most likely gonna need a speedy sleeve for the bottom of shaft. There?s probably a groove wore in the shaft itself won?t let the seal work. Real common problem

I bought the repair kit but I couldn't see how the speedy sleeve goes on, I replaced the brass bushing and the sleeve seemed too big for the seal to go over it ,when I put it on the shaft it had a gap in between the sleeve and shaft and there was no instructions with the kit

No brass bushing at the bottom of the steering tube. And no speedy sleeve at the bottom of the shaft.
But Big Dan IS correct that you likely need a speedy sleeve. It goes on closer to the center of the shaft - just above the threads where the pencil points to. This shaft was badly damaged but I saved it for the ball nut and I cut the top couple of inches off where the steering wheel splines should be to repair another damaged shaft.

No. Not bonded on. Just a press fit.
You will need to find a piece of conduit, pipe or tubing to drive it on. I used a piece of aluminum tubing I found around here. Make sure you cut it square on the end or it will push the sleeve on crooked and wreck it. I cut mine with a tubing cutter so I knew it was square on the end.
When you get it seated use nippers to cut the flange and tear it off. You will see when you get it.

I took it back apart and the sleeve they gave me in the kit isn't a snug fit and the shaft itself is the same size all the way to the top so doesn't seem terribly worn so I'm not sure the next step

I would say that sleeve is your problem.
It should be a tight fit.
Click on the link below.
The actual sleeve you install is the top hat looking thing. It is upside down in the pic. You drive it on with a tube that 'just' fits over the sleeve but catches the brim of the hat. You need a long piece of tubing or pipe so it is longer than the steering shaft so you can tap it on.
Clear as mud?

Thats the kit I purchased, I orginally installed the top hat piece but it wasnt 100% snug and didn't take much to get it all the way down, then just put the seal on over it leaving the repair sleeve off not knowing where it went , so the top hat piece goes on them the sleeve goes over the top hat piece then the seal over the sleeve? So the sleeve that was it the kit doesn't look correct? Thanks for the input

The top hat goes on brim down. On other applications you would use the driver sleeve to tap it on. But the steering shaft is too long to use the driver sleeve they gave you. So throw it away and make your own - a long one.

Rereading your post here. Was the top hat loose after you slid it on? You should be a tight fit that you have to tap on with a hammer.
If so buy some locktite and glue it on.
And you didn't make this clear: did you press/drive the seal into the bottom of the upper tube before you reinstalled the tube?
Remember, the spring side of the seal goes to the oil - in this case, down.

Yea the top hat was loose enough to pull back off with my hands so I'll have to glue it on, I tapped it down with spring side down until it seated , thanks for all the info I deff appreciate it
