841 Oil leak

Well getting her back together need to get a new timing light. The question today is an oil leak in the block behind the coil. I am not sure what to
call it where it is leaking from so I have added a picture. What is and how do I fix it .

Think tiny freeze plug. Hole was drilled to deliver oil to the cam bearing.
Small seal and sheetmetal cup to seal.

Ok came in from the barn and got the parts book out . I found the parts a cly block plug and a cyl block seal. I called NH and $ 35 for the plug and $15 for the seal and one know of a cheaper way to fix this. I have read some of the Archives and some say to seal it had anyone have any luck with that?

About 10x what it should cost. I would try to tease the steel cup out spray with
alcohol or your solvent of choice and try a dab of "Right Stuff" or Permatex #2
and reseat the cup. The cup should seat below the block. Mebbe seat in epoxy
"JB Weld" as an option. At 80 PSI that tiny plug has to hold back at the most
7-9 pounds.

As others have said that will cost way more than it should to fix. In fact it is so bad that you should just give up and unload that piece of junk! Since I am such a nice guy and live just up the road in NH I will make the benevolent offer of $2000 over the $4000 that you paid for it to reimburse you for your work. Just kidding. I had a 172 rebuilt by a high dollar engine shop and they put a special stainless steel plugs in those holes. You might check with any engine rebuilder.

Ok you had me for a minute . It?s crazy how much they want for that there is one on eBay but with shipping same price as NH. Thanks for the
laugh.

Well the plug came right out with needle nose pliers. I picked the seal out and it was shot . I think i will but the seal and reuse the plug with some sealer for now .
