rear main seal leaking

I have a Ford 3000 1965 with a small leak from the rear main seal, be fore I break it apart, is there anything out there that could be added to the oil to maybe stop it. It's not very much now and I could keep putting oil in it till I have to break it apart to fix it. Thanks for any help.

Anything that you add to the oil that might help stop a leak could also clog up oil passages inside the engine that need to be kept open.

The problem with seal stop leaks is not so much that they plug up little passages but that they are temporary And can lead to additional problems. They work by causing the rubber to swell a little which will make a rubber lip seal a little tighter so that it will seal better for a little while. The downside is that they will make other seals swell and wear faster as well, leading to the need for a major rebuild much sooner than otherwise. So you will need to split it to repair it. Plan on inspecting the clutch, and renewing the release bearing and transmission input shaft seal while you are in there.

Thanks for the info, I'll just keep adding oil as long as it not leaking any more than it is right now, I just had a man put a transmission seal in it, reckon he didn't look at the main seal, I wasn't there so I didn't say any thing about checking the main seal as the transmission was leaking so bad the it had oil on everything, so live and learn.

It might not be the rear main seal leaking. There's a sheet metal cover over the back of the camshaft. The o-ring seal goes bad. When you split it, replace everything, rear main seal, camshaft cover o-ring and freeze plugs.
