Oil or Grease? - steering gear

I have seen a lot of post on steering gear lubricant here and I believe the majority say grease, the pourable kind. I have recently reconditioned my power steering gear (64 4000 4 cyl.) Complete disassemble all new seals O-rings etc. and I'm ready to see if I did a good job. Looking at my IT FO20 it says 1.5 lbs. for the steering gear housing which make it look like grease The solid kind in a tube. I also thought I saw a post that ford change the spec form oil to grease in the early '60. If it is grease what type. Also question on PS fluid I see a lot of opinions on that. I've tried to see what meets the M2C41 spec but haven't been able to figure that one out either. input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

41 oil supercedes to 134 which is essentially "tractor hydraulic fluid". You can put the same oil in your PS system as you run in your hydraulic system.

just to clarify actually both. Now that the power steering is answered what about the steering gear housing. Thank for the responses

I use CNH Ambra in the PS and CNH pourable High EP oil/grease in the steering box.

you can use NLGI EP 0 or 00 grease in the mechanical side of the steering box. In 1959 ford released a service update advising this instead of 50w motor or 80w gear oil. Better to have pourable grease lube, than no lube was fords thinking.

My '63 manual steered 2000D steering box leaks slightly. I replaced gear oil with Lubriplate 105 which is primarily designed/used for engine rebuilding. However the fact that it's thicker than oil and thinner than grease makes it perfect for the steering box's worn out seals.
