HI, I have a ford 1715 with a j843 engine I just rebuilt it.
1. engine was bored over.040 block was decked.
2. valve job, head was resurfaced
3.new pistons, rods bushings replaced and fitted.
4. rod and main bearings replaced.
after starting engine after careful break in 60 psi oil pressure,190 temp, I noticed a ticking noise worse warm advances with speed towards upper end. the engine starts and runs good
I can't seem to pin it down. I used a standard head gasket I think i'm to tight on my clearance could this cause a extra noise ?
THANKS.

What do you mean (used standard head gasket). Those engines have different thickness gaskets and you determine the proper gasket by measuring the piston height above the deck.

Mark

yes your right mark that's what I didn't do, before I put it back together.
so I used the gasket thickness that would have been factory. which I would guess would be the thinnest.
