Turf steer tires, 1970 Ford 3000

Hello everyone. I use my 3000 for mostly mowing my yard. It has turf tires on the rear. It has some old 7.50x16 truck steer tires on the front. They are hard on my grass when turning even a little sharp. I looked on the internet for 6.00 or 7.50x16 turf tires but don't seem to find any. Have not checked with my tire guy yet. Anyone even know if they make turf tires that size? If so, do you have a web site I can look at or a brand? Thank you!

I think mine has 11.5 x 16 turf tires on the front.
The rims are not original obviously, but they are available.
They are wider and dished differently so the tires clear.
I can get you a picture of them tomorrow when it's light out.

Thank you, a photo would be great. If I
keep the original rims 7.50 wide is all I
can go! I would not be opposed to changing
rims. Wider would mean less compaction on
my lawn.

Check with your tire dealer for ribbed implement tires, they make them in many sizes and should be able to get some that fit your wheels.

Just looked and they make them in 6.50-16

Google Miller Tire, search implement tires.

I did see those. Think I will go see my
tire guy in the morning. Don't think I have
to worry about crazy Holliday shoppers at
the tire shop. Lol

I run cheesy car tires on mine. What I've found is that adding some weight to the front does more to prevent scuffing than the type of tires I use.

Thank you for the tip. I see yours is diesel. Sure wish mine was. I am looking for a diesel. Mine like yours also has PS, 8spd, diff lock and live PTO. Finding a good 3000 with all those options is not all that easy! My 5000 is diesel.

Ha,
I've posted this here before. This tractor started out as a tired gasser with a straight up 4 speed. Then I put the back half of a 3600 in it. Then a 201 gas engine for a few years and finally this diesel. A couple of different front ends, added the PS, etc, etc.
The ONLY part that remains of that original 4 sp gasser is the right side hood - which you can see.
I put British fenders and foot plates on it since that photo was taken.

Wow! That's a lot of work but fun! I am also in the market for a 2000 and 4000. All have to be diesel. I won't get rid of my 3000 gas because it is in great shape and is all original. I just love the thousand series!

Ultradog: Your 3000 sounds like my 4000.
It started life as a 4000 with 192 gas and SOS trans, I got it as a non runner with the engine seized.

I used the original block and a worn out 188 diesel to build a 201 and converted the tractor over to diesel. Several years later I replaced the failing SOS with a 8 spd trans and axle center section from a 4200, during that time I swapped on a freshly rebuilt 201 from a 4500 I had just purchased and put the old 201 on the 4500.
Figured I may as well have the best engine on the tractor I used the most. It was also a later model replacement engine with removable core plugs and cam drive tach adapter, this allowed me to swap instrument clusters and convert to a standard Delco alternator. During that time it also go a fresh paint job, decals and a set of flat top fenders from a 4600.

The original front axle and steering wore out so two years ago I swapped on a complete front axle assembly including the bolster, steering column, pump and lines from a 3930 converting it to hydrostatic steering.
At this time the rear wheels, outer axle assemblies and lift top are all that's left of the original tractor.
The lift quadrant broke this year and I have a spare lift top so that's next.
For nearly 20 years it did 90% of the work here on our small farm, now there's 4 other tractors to share the work load on our somewhat larger operation, but that old mutt of a 4000 is still my favorite go to tractor.

Well by just looking it seem to be very straight. I just think it is the old truck tires on it. They have a well defined sharp edge.

I had the size wrong, they are 27 x 9.5 x 15
This tractor came off a golf course/country club.
I've got it running again, but still have some work to do.
Like the front axle pin and a new radiator before the grill goes back in it.

Thank you for the photos. Those are like
the implement tires I have been looking at
and Destroked 450 suggested. My 3000 came
from a local parks department as well as my
5000. I am the second owner of both.

Although tires might help, the caster and camber of the front end.... make the tires dig in.... as part of the turning design. Any sharp turn will dig into the soil and leave a rut. wider tires will help... but not eliminate the problem. Mild turns will help the most. This is designed into the tractor to help it turn in loose dirt in agriculture applications.
