Not sure who is suggesting a 134 head for a 172 CI engine....

Installing a 134 CI head on a 172 CI engine will result in a higher static CI but the benefit realized is mostly offset (at least for puller purposes) by valve shrouding resulting in limited high RPM performance.

I'm not sure why the quoting didn't show up, but what I tried to quote from the previous post was:

The reason I asked was it sounds like there is some benefit to going with a head from a smaller displacement block, and I may be putting a 192 head on a 172 block. That is opposite what the other post suggested, so I was curious about his suggestion.
 
What's done on heads used for racing, or whatever you take a small valve head. Then you figure out how much bigger you can go on the diameter of the valves so they can't possibly hit each other (and leave some material between the valves so the head won't crack between them. Once you done all that you take the head gasket, put it on the head, mark out the id of the bore of the head gasket onto the head, then cut what is closest to the valve just to the edge of the head gasket is to unshroud the valves. You loose some static compression, but the extra air flow helps out more than what compression you loose by making the combustion chamber bigger. You can also have custom pistons made with less of a dish in them to raise the static compression ratio.
