3 cyl gas exhaust

I have a 74 gas 3 cyl 3000 with 8 speed trans horizontal exhaust good running tractor that I've had for several years. I was using my 6 foot bush hog last night ( after dark}and noticed it was running a little hot gauge in red.I stopped mowing and got a flash lite and noticed the radiator was clogged up.Took grill off and cleaned radiator so it could get air.Went back to mowing with 6 ft in 4th gear @ 1800rpm and motor temp went down back below red and motor seemed running fine and cutting 3ft sage grass pretty good.I also noticed the exhaust pipe and about 4 inches of the manifold was orange. Is this normal? maybe over fueling ?
Any thoughts or advice I took a couple pictures

It might be normal if you are working it hard. It also may be a worn fan belt. Mine runs much cooler now with the new belt on.

Looks good to me, haven't worked with -000 series gas tractors much as all of my are diesel, but when we worked dad old 850 hard the entire exhaust manifold and part of the exhaust pipe would glow from red to white hot.
Dad calmed it was tuned just right when it was like that.

Oh yes - looking like the old gal was working a little. As a kid, dad wanted us to plow an hour or so after dark and then call it a day. Plowing with the 8-N I used to look forward to seeing the manifold and first few inches of the exhaust glow red. That is typical when loaded and viewed in darkness.

Late timing will increase the heat in the exhaust manifold however you stated the tractor runs fine. An too lean condition is typically exhibited by the tractor not accepting load, missing under load. If you do not see some red when loaded at night I would suspect a very rich mixture.
