800 series 5 speed trans

I have a Ford 850 with the 3rd and reverse coupler out that has been sitting until I get the gumption to split the tractor. Neighbor came by this evening and brought up the point of just splitting the rear diff from the trans without splitting at the engine. I told him I believed the trans must come completely out. So, my question is, can we repair the trans by only splitting the trans and diff? Needless to say it sure would save a lot of work messing with the loader etc. I have a feeling I shouldn't get my hopes up though. As always, thanks for the help.

You are right by not getting your hopes up to high. You will need to have the transmission open on both ends to get the shafts and gears out of it.

That's what I recalled. My good neighbor who has volunteered to help me is a heavy equipment mechanic by trade, but doesn't have experience with these old Fords. When we talked he thought it might be a possibility and I said I'd run it by the folks on YT. Thank you for your reply.

Hey Glen.... I have all those gears in the tranny except for the 7100 1st gear. The gears are all in excellent condition and I would to see them go to someone who needs them. Let me know by email or phone... [email protected] ..... 541-747-7499
