Short rant - salvage yards!

Do salvage yards ever call back? I have calls in to several (looking for the nose piece of the hood for a 3000 gas) & so far NONE have ever called back! All they want to do when I call them is sell me new parts! If I want new I'll buy new! I even gave one of the larger chains their own tractor ID number from their website & they still can't tell me if they have one. Does anyone have better luck? If so, what do you do different?

Been my experience if the yard doesn't call back. It is because
they don't have the part and don't want to waist money on a
return call. If they do have the part. They will call back.

Nowadays most salvage yards either want
a fortune or only deal with newer parts
tractors. Generally for stuff 50 years
and older eBay is a much better bet.
Basically salvage yard has as much into
disassembling and inventorying a 50 year
old part as a 15 year old part but
there's much less profit tho be made

What year is your 3000? Unfortunately the nose piece is probably the most frequent victim of oops? How much do you want to spend on a used nose piece if one can be found?

With some of these it is better to get an auction salvage tractor, use what you need and sell the rest. Guess which part is often the most damaged on salvage tractors. (That was rhetorical and not necessarily true)

This is why I am spending money now on a front bumper for my 73 4000. Afterwards, I am going reinforce it with an additional guard of expanded metal or similar to create a brush guard to fend off low hanging limbs.

Find a good one, there are some, build a relationship, drop them a little tip, you will be surprised what they will do for you
the next time you want something.
