For this 1954 Ford Jubilee the improved rear main seal kit came with rear main cab side seals with neopreme seals and small rods. How are these suppose to be installed. It looks like they are either loose or jammed in very tight.

With the main cap in place... Lube the neoprene parts with oil and push/drive in place. Then lube the rods and drive them in, pointed end first. Trim flush.

I used those green rubber seals with the pins twice. The second time I had it together and took it back apart three times before I was happy with those side seals. I said never again and the next time I got the Victor Reinze RTV silicone to seal the sides with. You have to apply a good amount of it to the block before you press the block in, then apply the rest from the side and top.

I got the VR parts from NAPA... The garbage rubber side seal set I put in I ended up using RTV on the rubber side seals to seal it up just like I would on the sets that use paper side seals. I used permatex ultra grey RTV good stuff.

The only difference in the VR set is they use a special RTV to replace the side seals. part # JV 8 its extra tuff...
