Im working on a ford 3000 with the 3cyl gas engine and the front seal is leaking. I have the crank pulley off and it looks like the seal is
pressed in from inside the front cover? Am i seeing that right? How hard is it to pull front cover off? Also the pulley key looks kinda
messed up but crank looks fine, but cant get key to come out.... Will that come out when the front cover comes off? Thank guys i did some
searching on this site and couldnt really find what i needed so i hope someone out there can help me.

I sometimes wonder what the guy who designed that front cover was thinking. Yes, as you've discovered, the cover does have to come off to replace the front seal. In addition, usually the cover does not come off without a fight. Typically this is because the gasket has been glued on by someone in the past, and/or the cover is corroded to the locating dowels. Resist the temptation to pry too hard with a prybar, or you will likely break the cover.

I don't believe that the key will interfere with the removal of the cover. Once the cover is off, you can pry off the seal spacer which should expose the key fully.

okay thank you, any other tricks for front cover removal? i see the governor must be part of that as well. Is it all pretty simple? Im a auto mechanic, this is my first older tractor so its a little new to me. Any place to find a new key for front pulley off hand? thank you
