Ford 640 Power Steering

Today I popped the top off my 640 PS pump reservoir to find broken parts. There wasn't much left of the filter. I tried to look up the replacement parts needed on the New Holland website but the pump they show for a 640 tractor is different. This is a 1955 Ford 640 so i'm sure I had the right parts picture. anybody what gives?

The broken little handle had a hook on the other end.
It went through the spring, then the filter and hooked
in the pump to hold the filter down snugly.
That hook probably taught me more curse words than
13 years in the Navy did. What a PITA. They are sold aftermarket.
They are weak and bend when you try to hook them in place.

I can't find that part anywhere online. I might be making something myself to hold that filter in place

Good idea on making the hook. And make it out of wire heavy enough so as to have to drill the hole a little bigger in the cover plate. That will help the situation a lot.

There is a picture of it in the parts diagram but not in the sale listing.
Not sure a link to [b:15c4df5676]Messick's[/b:15c4df5676] is allowed here. They were cheapest.
If not, Google part number C0NN3C603B and stand by for sticker shock.

When I got my 861/4000 the same hold down clip was missing/broken (been 13 years now, can't remember). So I made one out of heavy wire, took two attempts to get
the correct length, still works fine with new filter I put in at the same time. Easy to make.

Yep easy to make..I cranked one out this after only one cupojoe. I copied the One i posted earlier.

I hope the home made ones hold the correct tension. They certainly can't be much
worse than a bent aftermarket one as long as the length is correct once hooked.
