Info About ford 3400

I purchased a ford 3400 and had a few questions it has an independent pto , how does
that system work because it doesn't feel like a 2 stage clutch like my 3000 and
there's a lever on the left side of the seat right behind the pto engagement lever
what does that do? I purchased this as a parts tractor hasn't ran in years long story
short I got the engine to free up and running and everything works so keeping it
together with 730 loader, thanks!

As far as I know, the only way a 3400 could have an independent pto is if it had a Select-O-Speed transmission. Can you post a picture of the lever behind the pto lever? Post the numbers from the tag under the hood (or the bellhousing, just above and to the rear of the starter), too. Yhose can help us figure out what you have.

As Ford Farmer has said, a 3400 would only have independent PTO if it has the Select-O-Speed transmission. If it is an S-O-S then the main PTO engagement handle would be a handle on the dash that you pull out to engage the PTO.

Since you say that it has the PTO engagement lever on the left side then it is not an S-O-S transmission, so if it is a 3400 it does not have independent PTO, or if it truly has independent PTO then it is not a 3400. It could be either a 3550 or a 4400 rather than a 3400, as both of those models had independent PTO available with the main PTO engagement handle on the left side.

Post the numbers from sticker under the hood, or the flat spot on the bell housing if the sticker is no longer there, and we can help you figure out what it is. If you can't find the numbers or if you think things may have been swapped out in the past, post pictures and we can help you figure it out. A picture of the whole tractor plus pictures of the front axle and steering setup, plus one of the rear axle would be the most helpful.

I know she looks a little rough but I restored worse lol, the lever I was talking about is in the last picture, thanks

Serial # C474825 is for a 75 model
5H13B = built Aug/13/75 day shift
There's a third set of numbers located on the housing past the milled off area, those decode the model, engine, pto and trans.

Same axle and steering as my brothers 3400
3000 style rear axle so it not independent pto, it could have a two stage clutch that's probably stuck.
Engine's been replaced
The handle is for the hand brake, don't see it on many US built tractors but my brothers has one too.

Thanks for the information!, yea it's a
lot easier/softer to press the clutch
than my 3000 but it doesn't slip or
grind and the pto engages and disengages
fine, I can feel both clutches on my
3000 and cannot with this one
