tractor triangle warning sign

1975 Ford 3000: I need to put an orange triangle caution sign on the back of the tractor. Where can I put it? There is a slot on the back of the seat frame. Perhaps there is a part to hold the sign and it goes there. Any info on this is appreciated.

do a search for "Slow Moving Vehicle" sigh. lots of info

One instruction said to mount it on the rear with point up, two to six feet above the ground

There is usually no factory mounting for it so whatever you can make work. I have several mounted on back of or just below the seat

many triangles have a mounting blade and receiver setup that, as mentioned, can be put just about anywhere you want to drill a couple holes.

Some use the rear fender, some use the back of the seat, etc.

Depending on the seat you have, it may have a "slot" or "receiver" to mount the support found in the mounting hardware kit you can buy for the sign.
Mine does, It's the Deluxe seat sold for the later series tractors that I put on my 64 4000.

Keith,

And then there's the redneck Tennessee style of mounting. I only put one on when I'm going to be driving on the road, which isn't very often. I tie mine onto the back of the seat with baling twine. It comes off easily when I'm off the road.

The correct term is 'Slow Moving Vehicle', the fluorescent orange triangle sign that was released in the early 60's for vehicles, farm use mostly, use d on highways that were incapable of going posted speed limits. In Michigan, the state regulations say it must be positioned centrally on the rear of tractor and/or implement visible to traffic behind. It is also illegal to use the signs for anything else as many do. People put them out by their mailboxes and driveways for markers and technically it is against the law to do so. I'll bet most law enforcement agencies have no clue on the laws regarding SMV's...

They need to be on many implements too, as they will block the overtaking driver from seeing one on the back of the tractor. They are available in stick on form too. If you are driving on roads with higher than 30 MPH speed limits or hills to hide behind you really should have flashing lights too.

I didn't have a place for my Slow Moving Vehicle plackard, that in Texas is only lawful on vehicles below 25 mph.....(as I recall). So I tied it to the left side of the bonnet frame just above the locking brace. That way it is visible with a hay bale on the back. Other thing I have done is take that piece of baling wire and tie it to the rear of the bale.....but you gotta remember to take it off.

I agree, flashing light up high as
possible catches the eye much further
away than just an smv. Also turn signals
save a lot of guessing and close calls
by clearly letting other drivers know
your intentions. I know especially
driving in the city I wouldn't want to
be without them

(quoted from post at 07:25:39 11/02/17) If you haul your tractor or equipment you have to cover sign or take it off.

Also, in most states, if you are working off of the road, but near enough to be seen by passing motorists, you must remove it or cover it as well. I guess they don't want the drivers on the road to be confused and think there might be a slow moving tractor on the road when there isn't one.

I used flat stock and bent it like an L. Bolted the L where the seat frame mounts to tractor. I’m kinda short but I left enough room so the someone taller could move the seat back.
