Ford 4500 Backhoe Shuttle Shift Oil Cooler Lines

I recently noticed that the two oil cooler lines from my 4500 shuttle shift transmission to the radiator are missing. The previous owner looped them together just in front of the filter mounted on the left side of the transmission. I am thinking that Ford would not have included these on the original design if they aren't important so I would like add them back. Due to a leak, I have a new radiator on order that has the two connections for these lines which is how I found this problem.

I am having trouble finding these parts online. Does anyone have any sources - salvage yards or otherwise - they can recommend that might sale these? Or should I just try to find some tubing and make something? If the latter, can I just use flexible hoses?

The original lines were hard lines with a section of hydraulic hose in crimped on in the middle to allow for flexing from the tractors vibrations that a full hard line wouldn't have held up as well under.

There were two different designs and part numbers for those lines depending on when your 4500 was built. The earlier design used from 1965 through 06/1967 actually had multiple lines and the filter was mounted up near the radiator. The design used from 07/1967 and later used a spin on filter at the left side of the transmission and only had two lines. Here is a link to the parts drawing that includes the part numbers. I don't think that they are available new any longer but you could do a Google search for the part numbers or check the salvage yards to see if anyone has some good used ones available.

They are under a bit of pressure so you can't use regular rubber hoses. You can use flexible hydraulic hoses that are rated for 300 psi or so, as I believe the pressure is similar to the the pressure in the oil cooler lines for the S-O-S transmission, which is in the 200 psi range. I used hydraulic hose rated for 300 psi on my S-O-S tractor and they have held up well.

Thanks for the info. I have been searching online by part numbers and descriptions for a while now with no success. Do you have contact information for any salvage yards you recommend? I am not familiar with any that carry this series of tractor equipment. I think I will go the hard line route first if possible since there are some hot and moving parts in the area. I am worried a flexible hose may find one of these over time. Thanks.

I have the metal lines off my 4500, I switched mine over to a manual transmission. I also have the trans, converter flywheel, and the shuttle shift linkage that goes through the dash (I'm getting tired of tripping over all that stuff).

That is great. I am interested in them but I cannot figure out how to contact you outside of forum replies. I cannot find any links for direct emails.
Sorry I am new here and am still trying to figure out how to navigate this website.

I got your message, I have the short line going from the transmission to the trans oil filter, and from the oil filter to the cooler up front. I'm going to have to look for the other line, I know I should have it, I just have to find it (got too much stuff in the shop).
