keeping plow clean

Does anyone know where you get the stuff you spray on your turn plows to keep them clean and where i can get it? They say it comes right off when you start plowing again.

TSC had offered something for this, "plow kote" ? can't seem to find it now. Does not matter, for a 2 bottom, 1 can of rustoleum paint will just about cover the moldboards twice, so you might get 2 applications out of a can. I use white, it will last years outside, and will come off in a short time when plowing. I also like it as it is helpful to adjust the plow, you can see if the rear plow is not cutting enough, paint stays on, while the front one may have scoured it off already. In any abrasive soil, most anything will come off quickly. Many use grease and similar types of substances, I just like the paint because the grease seems to wash off after a year or so, but certainly is better than leaving them bare and will still prevent rust awhile longer. White paint you can see any spot of rust forming easily.

Thanks for the info, I greased them but its coming off. I bought some graphite paint for lawnmowers at TSC. I will use both and see which does best for the price. I have a Massey 66 plow and bought a Massey 74 plow for parts. I was wondering if the parts are interchangeable.

I bought some called "Tillage Paint" at a local farm supply store. The spray can barely worked long enough to cover 2 bottoms. It took me 3 different stores before I found a clerk that had any idea what I was looking for! By the end of a year it had almost all but disappeared, so I just used regular Rustoleum this time.

I use this material, works good,
its a soft black paint, that sticks to the slick surface of the plow, but comes off easy as soon as you start plowing,

I purchase it at Orscheln farm stores,

Till guard 11570 soft black
am sure you can order some if you do not have a local store,

I just plow my small truck patches, when I used a regular spray paint on the wings, I never got to plow enough for the wings to get completely clean,
I am just old school, I like to see those wings shine, this stuff allows me to have clean wings and protects the plow during the off season.

I have always just grabbed a rattle can that is under half full. It will go bad anyway, and regardless of the color it will protect it your moldboards and it will scour right off.

I just use the cheapest rattle can I can find. Usually one can will cover my 4 bottom with a thin coat. I find the cheap stuff at walmart is also pretty soft paint so it scours off pretty easy.

I know it's only a small amount of paint compared to a lot of acres of soil, but do you really want the cheapest paint you can find mixed with the soil that you grow your crops in?

That would be good challenge to put to the EPA! Can they devise a test to detect presence of .0001 ppm of alkyd enamel. They could probably blow a few hundred K on it.
