I have a Ford 335 (similar to a 3600). I was using the tractor and then fluid starting pushing out of the power steering breather cap. Then the power steering went.
There are no leaks on the steering column. This was sudden with no steering shudder or hesitation. I have read several posts about power steering diagnosis and
just wanted to see if anyone else might have some insight. Ultradog has several valuable posts and maybe I am overlooking the key post that would match my
scenario.
To be more specific with the symptoms: operating tractor, no unusual stress during operation, oil starts pushing out of the breather cap and then power steering
slows. Not an excessively hot or cold day. No steering shudder or hesitation prior to the oil being pushed out of the resevor cap. The oil that was pushed out shows
no unusual signs of milkiness or dark coloring. I can add oil only to see it push back out of the breather cap. No oil leaks other than breather cap oil flow. The
scenarios I see posted are similar but they also include leaks around the steering column.
Ideas are appreciated. Planning to order parts from this site and wanted a bit more advice and recommendations before moving ahead. Thanks to all in advance for
sharing your power steering experiences and diagnosis.
