Ford 4000 Tractor Engine Cuts Out on Rough Terrain

Hello Everyone,
I own a 1967 ford 4000 3 cylinder gas tractor. It has a loader. The engine seems to cutout for a quick moment when driving across rough terrain. For instance turning around in a freshly plowed field or sometimes when going over a bump, or if working on a bit of a side hill. This seems to be a rather new occurrence. The cut out is not one where the tractor stops, it just seems like there is no fuel to the engine for a moment. Then all is well until it happens again. It is much more obvious when on rough terrain. When this happens I'm usually in low 3rd or 4th at most.

Any insight you can provide regarding troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

John B

Sounds like the float in the carb might be adjusted a little too low. or the needle valve might be sticking closed. If it only happens on very hard bumps and fairly steep hills then it may be normal. I remember reading on here from someone about a kit for the carb for use in hilly environments that could help but I'm not sure what it was called or if it might still be available.

My battery terminal clamp was cracked which meant mine wouldn't start, despite the lights on the dash coming on.

Rectified the problem temporarily and on a diesel machine it's not a big issue once it's running but wonder if yours are loose or something...

The Holley carburetor used on your 4000 is sensitive to float adjustment. The gasoline level in the float bowl could be too low or too high. Any smoke from the exhaust when it cuts out?

Of course, you will want to verify that the ignition is spot on before looking to carburetion issues.

Thanks everyone, my tractor is about 100 miles away so I won't get at for a week or so. It does not smoke when it cuts out. I'll check the other items too. really appreciate the insight.
