960 rear wheel stud

I am trying to replace a twisted off rear wheel stud bolt. Got the wheel & drum off & the broken stud driven out. Any hints on putting in the new stud? Do I need to pull the axle? Or is there an easier way? I can find nothing in the FO-20 about this.
Thanks for the help!

You must remove the axle to do it properly.

Alternatively, you can drill a hole in the backing plate to allow insertion of the new stud.

Instructions for doing so are in the Ford manual. Not sure about the I & T FO-20 manual.

"you can drill a hole in the backing plate"
Thanks Dean. I was thinking I had read that but wasn't sure it was for this model!
Must leave it for now, but hope to get back to it later today.
Thanks for the help!

OK, Got'er done! Had to loosen the axle because the hole would have been into the bearing retainer ring. Loosening the axle was not too bad tho. Drained the oil, pulled off the back side bearing retainer, loosened the big burr almost off & the bolt went in. Put it back together, pulled the bolt tight w/one of the lug nuts some washers, put the wheel back on & we're ready to go!
Thanks for the help!
