Drawbar help

I recently purchased a 66 3000 that I am working to get everything back up to par on. I am wanting to pull a trailer for a hay ride this weekend.

The tractor came with the swinging drawbar brackets that are bolted underneath the rear end housing but no drawbar and no pin.

I purchased a bar from tractor supply like this:

I found the pin online. Am I correct that all I do is slide the bar through the bracket and push the pin through? Does the pin go up from the bottom and the clip snaps over it? All of the pictures I have found show the pin down through the top but that seems like a pain having to drop the bracket everytime you want to take the bar on and off.

Also, is this enought to pull a trailer or do I also need the drawbar that goes between the lift arms for this to rest on to support the weight?

You are not going to bend the drawbar with a trailer on it unless it is seriously overloaded. Do not put the lift arm drawbar under the other one or something will tear up if the arms try to come up. Looks like there are different holes for the pin to go in so you can change the length that the drawbar sticks out. If you are concerned about it supporting the weight, keep it shorter. But this will bring trailer closer to tractor tires when turning, so be watchful of that.

I agree, keeping the drawbar short is better for the drawbar and keeps from having the front end get light with heavy loads. I keep mine in very close with my dump trailer which has significant tongue weight when loaded, I have carried loads of crushed stone weighing almost 5 tons
