Hydraulic pump

I have a Ford 850. The only way I can get
the hydraulic pump to work is removing the
large screw on top of the pump and let some
hydraulic fluid pour out. After a little
while the hydraulics work and I tighten the
screw and they continue to work. Please
help. Any ideas how to remedy this issue?

Sounds like you have a suction side leak somewhere, maybe a pump seal. You might want to check the orings on the pump, the manifold or the hydraulic lift cover. At the top of the page type in (850 Ford tractor hydraulic pump losing prime). Click on search, it will reset, then click on search again. It will pull up old posts on the subject.
