Adding Hydraulic Control For Remotes

I've just cleaned, prepped and painted a used 2 spool under seat valve to put on my 4100. I removed all of the old O rings and cleaned everything there, with a final cleaning with acetone, it's bone dry. Should I apply a film of Hydraulic fluid to the machined surface and O ring recesses before putting the new O rings in and bolting it to the rockshaft housing?

Thanks!

I usually use a bit of grease to hop the orings in place. Oil or grease won't hurt.. Its got 2g or so of hyds sump to mix with.

I use a thin film of grease, both sides, it wont leave easily. Also holds the orings in. Use the right orings also.

Thanks for the replies. My intuition was to put something on it whether to help it seal or to prevent rust on the machined face, I don't really know. The last one I did, the O rings fit nicely into the recesses and there was no danger they'd fall out when installing.

there is probably thousandths of an inch air gap. Left out with humidity and in the shade they tend to rust a tad.

Well I'm back with more questions. :)

I went to install the valve, and pulled a seal kit from stock, but some of the O rings don't fit. I'm doing some Googling, and kits with this part # (DHPN485A) have varying numbers of rings. Mine has 13. There also seems to be square cut rings out there. Are the kits I see with the same part # but more rings than mine possibly "fits all" kits? What's the deal with the square cut rings?
