631 rear axle oil filled to check plug and then checked oil on transmission
about a quart of oil ran out of check plug does that mean may need gasket or
probably still enough oil in rear axle. I am too old to try a split to replace the gasket.

I would slowly open up the oil drain plug just to the point you get a drip. Good chance you will find you have some water in the oil and if it has set a few days the water will be in the bottom. Good chance the shiftier boot is bad and letting rain get in. Had that happen more then once on my 841S

Your transmission oil reservoir has nothing in common with your differential reservoir. The two lubes would have to get through your hydraulic reservoir to ever mix. This is nearly, if not totally, impossible.

One of three things has happened or a combination thereof:

1. If this is a new to you unit, it's possible someone has overfilled the transmission.

2. Condensation or moisture intrusion has floated the oil up and is lurking in the bottom of your case.

3. Your 3 point hydraulic pressure tube has at least a small leak in it, allowing hydraulic fluid to leak into the transmission.

Thanks for your reply, tractor has always been in the shed when not in use and
I have owned it for a number of years was very careful on oil levels so it is probably number 3

Condensation can and will add a good bit of water over a year or 2. I would start by cracking the drain plug open a bit and see what comes out because if it is aa the pressure line that is a tractor split o fix type job

Pray tell, why does one have to split this tractor to replace that line. I'm of the opinion that is not true.

I learned the hard way that just a cup or so of water in the transmission in the winter can lead to a tractor that will not move due to a piece of ice locking things up
