need help with '55 Ford 600 Hydraulic presure line

New User
I tryed to pick up a half of a telephone pole with the boom, heard a "pop", it ran for about 10 minutes but the hydraulic fluid went into the transmission and then leaked out of the shifter.
I plan to put air into the line to locate the leak, (haven't yet), but I have looked at the pressed fluid line and am wanting some advice on how to remove / or any guidence /information that may help me on this repair ( can it be done with out spliting )
Thanks !!!

Ive heard of someone driving a tube inside of the leaking line to stop it from leaking. Theres a post on here about making a new tube as there are stepped sizes from front to back to put it back original. You dont have to split one to drive a tube in but I've never done it. I'll see if I can find it. If you put (800 Ford hydraulic tube replacement) in the search box at top and click it will reset, then click search again and it will pull up old posts on the subject.

Yes it can be done without splitting and is much easier to replace than to try to patch. There have been many posts on replacing the hydraulic tubes if you do a search on
the Ford forum.

In a nutshell, all you have to do is drain the oil, remove the manifold from the pump to tranny, tap the tube with a 7/16 tap(I used a fine thread and threaded it as far
as the tap would go), screw a piece of 7/16 all thread rod in, slip a one to two inch pipe nipple on the all thread along with a large flat washer and nut. Tighten the
nut and the tube will pull right out through the nipple. There's only a half to three quarters inch of tube holding in the housing so once you get that far you're home
free.

M-MAN- Now, I'll be waiting for YOU to tell him where to buy the replacement tubes!!!

Plus, if you think he is going to make his own....he will need a lathe the can handle the length. He never said that he had any machinist skills. I don't know. Yup. it's easy but you don't really give him any answers.

Hmmnn - Seems to me like I gave the answer to the question asked. BFYI you can purchase the tube from Walts or buy stock tubing from McMasters and do it yourself. I turned mine on a Micro Mark 16 in lathe back before Walts started selling them turned down. Some times you have to think outside the box but just because you don't have the "proper" tools doesn't mean you can't do the job.

Someone said something about where
you gonna buy new tubes.? I looked
in Dennis carpenter catalog ,
didn't see them there .......But I
have called them and they have
stuff not listed in catalog. Worth
a shot. Friendly folks , quick
shipping. All Ford stuff.
