1973 3000 Clutch Questions

1973 3000, 8 speed transmission, live PTO.

The reprint factory manual I have says the tractor was made with a three button clutch disk. The clutch disk that was in there is a 10 tooth 11 inch diameter organic disk type with a date stamp of 1978.

My questions:

1) Is this change common?
2) Does anyone happen to have the thicknesses of new clutch disks - both transmission and PTO?

The parts drawings show two different clutch plates for your tractor, one is a triangular one and the other is a round one, but they are both 10 spline 11". It doesn't say what the difference is between the two other than one is round and the other is triangular, maybe one was for the 6 speed and the other was for the 8 speed? Prior to 10/1/69 they used a 15 spline clutch. Sorry I can't help with the question on the thickness.
 

The later button clutches have better holding power and a more aggressive engagement, on larger tractors this is a benefit giving much longer clutch life, especially when there's a lot of clutch use like round baling or loader work.
On smaller tractors the aggressive engagement make them jerky and difficult to ease around when hooking up to implements, some don't like the jerkiness and have the button disc replaced with a organic round disc.

My 6610 cab tractor has a button clutch but is heavy enough to handle the aggressiveness of the clutch.
Both of my 4000's, 4500 and 5000 all have organic and are comfortable to operate.
My MIL's 74 model 3000 has a button clutch, I hate driving that thing.

One can get accustomed to operating a small tractor with a button clutch but I use mine hundred's of hours per year with the softer engaging organic disc, the 20-30 hours we use the 3000 for tedding and raking hay each year isn't enough time to get accustomed to clutch before the tractor is parked and not used till next hay season.
 
Thanks Gents! Further searching also indicates that the button type (triangular) is a lot rougher on the flywheel and pressure plate. The tractor's primary use is snowblowing. Ability to feather clutch engagement near buildings is important to me. I am going to stay with the organic clutch disk.

If anyone has a measurement I would appreciate it. It doesn't look *too* worn, but it is easy to change now while it is apart, and my only references are automotive.

I am measuring about 0.075" depth to the rivet heads and 0.348" in overall width.
