861 Video - how does this engine sound to you?

861 locked up engine soaked with MMO, broke it free, replaced cracked head with junkyard head and rebuilt valve train new seats new guides new valves. Blue smoke out the back.

Compression 130-130-150-130; #3 plug oily and fouled.

Engine seems noisy to me so I took a video of it. Let me know how it sounds to you?

What did top of pistons look like when head off, the edges will be washed free of carbon where oil passes by?

If mine, I would work snot out of it for a few hours, then see.

"I dont know if you could put a non-fouler on those or not, anybody?"

Don't know why you couldn't. Seems like there's plenty of clearance.
They even fit under the tank in an N series.

I tend to agree with David G also.
Work it and see if the smoke clears up.
Here's my 640 on [b:5ced34c08d]YT[/b:5ced34c08d] from a few years ago.

And an "after" picture for fun too.

Most of the sound I'm hearing sound's like valve lash might be a liitle loose but not enough to worry with. I worry more about 20Lbs difference in one cyl than 130lbs which is low. I agree that working it may raise compression a little and valve lash should always be re-checked after a few hours when head has been off. When you check valve lash, look at intake valve stem clearance and seal on cyl that is getting oil.

oil pressure is good right?
Valve train sounds noisy.
Stick something in your ear and touch the engine in various spots to narrow down where the noise is coming from.
If valve train, check the lash again.
And make sure oil is getting up there.
Did you make sure the valve train oil supply tube was inserted and sealed properly?

sure, you can use an anti-fouler...might help, depends on how bad the oil foul is.
Looks like #3 is oil fouling badly (your plug shouldn't be letting the oil by, check the sealing ring)
Freeing up a stuck engine, stuck piston rings is common.
After solving the noise problem, I agree to use the tractor. Under load they 'might' free up. might not.

I had one junker with some stuck rings after getting the engine unstuck. Every time I parked it, I pulled the plugs and squirted a little MMO/Blaster/Seafoam into the cylinders and put the plugs back in. Every start it smoked like crazy of course, but the rings did free up eventually.
On another....they just wouldn't come loose, even plowing...upon teardown, it took a hammer and chisel to get the rings off, one small piece at a time.
win some, lose some

Really Larry? I thought it sounded very clattery to me. If yours all sound like that, I'd suggest a valve adjustment.

Please don't be offended by my comments. Valve noise grows slowly over time, and for some owners, since the noise "grows on them", they often
don't realize just how bad it is unless they hear a normal one.

Hi, Royse,

yes, exactly- it was your post about your 640 that led me to mow with it for 5 hours ot see if that helped the blue smoke! :)

When I rebuilt the head I did set valve clearances but it sounds liek you recommend I set them again after running for a few hours.

thank you!

Bill

Yep, when I rebuilt the valve train I set the valve clearance (hot) and ran it with the valve cover off for an hour or two just to watch the oil movement. When I opened it upon getting it the valve train was oil starved for the reasonisn you say- and the head was cracked, Thats why I
redid it all.

As long as its valve clatter I don't care that much. Ill work it for another 20 hours then readjust. What I did NOT want to do was work it wiht aknock. I havent had a knocking engine and so I wanted some expert opinion.
