Ford 600 won't start

My 600 won't start. It's getting fuel but no spark. There is juice to one side of the coil with the key on. Nothing coming out to the distributor even when I crank it. New coil time??

Pull the cap and rotor and be careful not to loose the rotor spring clip and then pull the dust cover. Turn the engine over till the points are open. Then take the ignition side wire off the coil and turn on the ignition. Touch that wire back onto the coil. If you get a spark when you do then you have a short in the distributor and the insulator going into the side of the distributor maybe bad. If you get no spark when you do that turn it so the points close and try again this time you should get a spark. No spark then means the points need to be cleaned or replace. You can also do those test with a meter but I have found it is as easy to do with out a meter. Had a D-17 die on me yesterday because of a problem sort of like that and I had to hot wire it to get it back home. One of the guys was brush hogging with it for the up coming deer season

Ok Old. I did as you said; no spark with points open and nothing with them closed. So I got my 6-12v test light and put the coil wire back on. With key on, it lit up on both sides of the coil and on moving side of open points. With points closed it lit all the way thru to the stationary side of the points. I reassembled everything, hit the starter and it fired right up. Go figure. If it does it again I will take the points out and check all the wiring.

Thank you for the advice. It got me motivated to look harder.

no spark with points open and nothing with them closed.

Spark happens at the instant that the points open. Nothing to measure or see when they are open or closed, only at the instant that they open.

Messing with the point probably did enough to clean them up for at least a little while. I my self keep a simple cheap as in a buck or so point file on hand for point problems. I also keep the box point come in to use to also clean the points after I have filed them. I have tractor that have the same points in them that where there 10 plus years ago and they still run just fine
