Can't get 1965 3000 to start!

Hi,
I have a 3 cylinder 1965 Ford 3000 and can't figure out why it won't start. It's not getting gas to the pistons.

I rebuilt and then replaced the carburetor . I've changed the thermostat and points condenser, too. I tested the cylinder compression and each was at 62.

I'm out of ideas... can anyone help?

62PSI per cylinder is not even close to enough compression for it to run. Shoot the old 8N a weak engine has 90 PSI. I would start by figuring out why you have such low compression. Maybe give us more info so we can help you help your self

Redo your compression test.
Those numbers are suspect.
The minimum they should be is 100 psi.
About the only way it could have 60 is
with stuck rings or stuck valves.
Wide open throttle, spark plugs out, fresh
battery for full crankung speed.
When is the last time you adjusted the
valves?
Did you go through and clean all four fuel
filters?

Is the tractor new to you? Have you seen it run recently? If it has set for a long period of time the gas tank may have deteriorated to the point that the fuel is contaminated and clogging your fuel intake screen. After you re-test your compression as suggested and assuming you get a better reading than 60 PSI, squirt starter fluid into each cylinder to see if it hits (assuming you have spark). If no better compression reading then that will have to be addressed. If compression still very low, squirt some motor oil in cylinders and see how far compression rises. That will help determine where issues may lie.

Old,
This tractor has the external pump driven by the ring gear. Where is the fill point and check for level for this system?Seondly ordered a filter from napa for the steering hydraulic pump. What type of oil is used in the hydraulic steering system? I think it might be ford Type A

ejensen, did you reply to the wrong thread? Those pictures do not look like a 1965 3000. They look like a pre-1965 4 cylinder tractor from the hundred, '01 or 4 cylinder 2000/4000 series.

I use the Dextron 4 type ATF in my power steering on my 841S. Ford manual calls for the ford type ATF but he new Dextron covers that

Old,
Thank you will use what you suggest for the power steering. What about transmission and differential, Noticed two fill points, talked to the person I am helping a short while ago. He said there are 3 points. There is a dipstick on left side of tractor. I would think the transmission, differential, and hydraulic reservoir, would use a high quality transmission different from 90wt
Thanks,
Chris

To me your compression guage is suspect. What kind of Schrader valve is in it. Is it spring loaded? Do you have to push against it to
open it even when there is no air pressure behind it? The wrong schrader valve in the guage will give a lower reading. I used to work
with a mechanic that was a crooked SOB. He would switch the valve in his guage to show a lower reading to the customer and sell them a
valve job which he never did. He would just clean up the top of the engine and maybe replace the valve cover gaskets. If the customer
wanted to see the "after" reading he would switch back. Check your guage or try a different one.

I use the 303 UTF in my 841S Ford. It meets the Ford 134d SPEC . As for fill points what tractor?? My 841S gas one for the transmission one for hyds and one for the rear end

Old,
Thank you. side panels both say ford 871. Have looked at pictures of an 871. Looks like Ford made a version with some type of auto tranny. This tractor is a 4 cylinder diesel, gear transmission, push the gear shifter one way and there is a low gear set up of some type. LIke a
tractor with a low gear range. Removed starter today, cleaned, checked it myself, and took to napa for testing.Works good now . My friend tried an older battery which caused the Bendix to lock up. My ford jubilee is a similar tractor just smaller. It has three fill points and I use a good quality of transmission fluid which I buy in a 5 gallon can.

With out looking in my manuals I still think the 871 which has the SOS transmission will have 3 fill points. As for fluid in it I would check with New Holland dealership and see what they say. Those SOS units are very picky as to what a person does the them and what is used in them. That is one I would not own due to the transmission it has.
