8700 PTO Shaft update

Posted this with the last thread, but wanted to make sure Bern saw it, so here it is again. So many of us owe Bern so much.

After getting a tire changed on the grain truck and a couple other jobs done, I sat down about 11:30 with the torch, went in through the big
hole in the bottom of the axle housing, and managed to cut the race on that cage needle bearing - didn't even nick the housing. Drove in new
bearing and put everyting else back together. Filled up sump w/oil and now my pto turns. I'm hearing what sounds like some gear noise I don't
remember hearing before, but it's turning fine. Wonder if it'll quiet down as it's ran/used more? Planning to hook up to auger wagon tomorrow
or next day and try it out.

Bern - can't thank you enough for your help. Your advice has been a tremendous benefit. Thank you so much.

Glad to be of help. That said, if it's making a noise you haven't heard before, if it was me, I'd be draining the oil out of the compartment from time to time and keeping a close eye on what comes out. You don't want to catch something coming apart after it's too late.

A magnet would be a great idea. In fact, I'd get one of those magnets that they use in automatic transmissions and glue it to the underside of the cover plate.
