ford 671 SOS

I have bought this tractor and in process of rewiring and trying to stay original. Most of the wiring was bad and cut off
I have question, on the right side below the throttle handle and behind the light switch there is a push button that has a wire going down into the transmission and the other has been cut. What is this button for and where does other wire hook to?

I think the push button you are referring to is the starter button. The wire going to the transmission is a safety switch so the tractor will only start
in park. An important safety switch. The other wire should go to the starter selenoid. If the safety switch is bad it is still available through New
Holland parts. The operation is easily verified with a simple ohm meter.

If that push button is on the underside of the horizontal surface it is the start button. As Gene said one wire should go to the start solenoid.

AFAIK, the start button is on the left side, near but above the key switch.
If it's a diesel, might it be for the glow plugs?

Starter button for SOS tractors.

One wire goes to the solenoid, the other to the Park switch beneath the transmission top cover.

Diesels had another switch for the glow plugs on the same side, IIRC.

If it's a Diesel the push button above the key switch on the horizontal surface is intake manifold heater. It energizes a selenoid similar to the starter selenoid. Those too can be checked with an ohm meter or feeling for warmth when energized. You can buy them at a automotive parts store for a fraction of NH prices.

(quoted from post at 14:12:55 09/24/17) AFAIK, the start button is on the left side, near but above the key switch.

Nooo! The starter button is on the right side and is what the OP is describing. The manifold toaster button is on the left above the key switch for a diesel.
