The leaver on our " new" 640 is very
difficult to move. Broke the friction
plate ,got new one. We have drained
everything and looking in fill plug
hole under seat everything looks nice
and clean. No rust. So what's stuck?
Lift works. Just can't hardly move
leaver.
 
The shaft passes through a tube between lever & inside top cover. The annular clearance fills with rust.....especially on tractors left outdoors.
 
So unbolt ,slide out , clean up.
Put it back? Not that easy?!
Does it attach to anything inside?
I know the axle. And PTO just
slide out. No " keeper" inside
 
Shaft must be removed from inside, but.....you can remove tube (quadrant) from shaft from the outside & clean & lube just fine without removing shaft.
 
When we took it apart #31 (spring)
was missing. Special spring? If so
where to get one? Thanks

Hardware store? Nothing critical. Just pressure to hold the cork compressed enough so that friction keeps lever where you put it.

carpenter and they sell the cam
follower pin I need for my 960.
$4.95. New Holland dealer thought
I was crazy.
