One-arm-loader?

Says it's OE on a Workmaster 601.

Do we know if it was a Ford option?

Do we like them?

I'd be using it for light dirt and construction work. Might add a hyd cyl to dump as it's currently a trip wire bucket. I saw one of these on a little IH tractor not long ago and seemed ok for light work.

Rest of the tractor looks ok.

Yes. It's a Ford loader. Folks that have 'em seem to like 'em. Never having had one, I think I'd much prefer a two arm loader.[/img]

It's Ford. We had one on a 860. Had the multi-purpose bucket with manure forks, dirt plate and snow bucket extension. Worked just fine. Ran off a port from the main hydraulic circuit but had to chain down the lift arms rockshaft to the rear axle. Also used it on our 961d later on with different front bracket. Handled the weight better, or should I say more weight. Not quite as nice as a loader with full hydraulic up/down and dump but still gets heavy loads around.

They were a Ford-made loader, and Ford made brackets for MANY different models. Older ones are red, newer ones are blue. A
hydraulic bucket was an option, but I've only seen 3 or 4 like that. My Grandpa had one on his Jubilee for many years, had to chain
the 3-point down to make it work, as it didn't have a remote valve. Some use a front-pump. I've seen them on just about every model
from a Jubilee to a 3-cylinder 4000... I've never seen them, but Ford made brackets to mount them on the Dexta/Super Dexta and 8N
as well. Even saw one adapted (rather crudely) to a JD 'A'. They are nowhere near as nice as a modern quick-attach loader, but they
sure beat a shovel and wheelbarrow.

I've not had one but know those who have, and know of no serious issues.

Keep in mind, it's an AG utility tractor loader. It is not an excavator. Manure, loose dirt, gravel, etc. It's not meant for digging.

Thanks for the info. Prolly not what I'm looking for. I had a tube loader on my 8N, and it was ruining the steering gear. Still need a loader, but I'll find something a bit more robust.

I have 4 off these style loaders. Good for light duty. EZ on/off
about 10/15 minutes. EZ to work on the tractor with them on.
Usually not a bunch be of money to buy.

If your tractor has remote hydraulics, you shouldn't need to chain
the lift arms down. Just plug it in and go. Chaining the arms is
required if you plumb it into the test port as I understand.
I have one for my 960 and I don't have to chain the arms down.
I don't use it much because I have a fully hydraulic one on my
Jubilee and have added power steering to that tractor.
Power steering is almost a much anymore for loader work.

I would take a one arm loader any day over a jungle gym tube
type. There were tube types that did not require you to climb on
and off the back of the tractor too. Those would be better.

I have 2, one on a 641, one on a 960, both with hydraulic dump.
Good loaders. When using them, I can't feel any difference from the regular style loader on another of my Fords.

Like said, very easy to get them on and off.
And much, much easier to work on the tractor with them compared to a regular loader.
They seem a bit lighter in weight on the front end of these old tractors too.
Looking at a one-arm on a Narrow front Ford, it looks like it will tip over just sitting there..........good design, it won't :D

I know this post is old and not sure you will see this but I am looking at purchasing a 641 workmaster that has a one arm loader and trying to figure out how to convert to hydraulic dump what do I need to make this conversion

Welcome to the Ford Board.
Always start a new thread.
Always.
Unless you could find a parts loader, converting one to hydraulic dump would be a significant undertaking. And maybe more importantly, it would require you start out with one that the main upright frame that was made to accept the hyd dump. Not all of them were.
If you could post some photos of the one you are looking at we could advise you better.
This photo is one I grabbed off the net. It shows the extra parts needed.
