Ford 3400 clutch release support housing seal

Got the new parts in and had a small window to get some stuff done. Knocked the old seal out (garter spring on the gear box side of the housing if that makes sense) and put the new one in the same way I removed the old one. The new seal (#83924924) has some rubber on the outer rim which tore alittle bit. I tried the manual and Internet before posting to make sure I put the seal in correctly and that the little rubber bits shouldn't hurt.

New seal installed, that's the short side of the housing obviously

Burbanator,
Sometimes these boards are good for more
than just info.
I also needed to replace input shaft seals
and had bought the seals last week.
I worked today, then came home and read
your post. Had time to do mine before
supper so got at it. Done.
So thanks for the motivation.
I think it was you who asked about that
weep hole. I learned what it's for:
A 1/4" drift punch works great for driving
the old seal out.
Mine will look a little different than
yours as this tractor has dual input
shafts. But the job is about the same.

how did your seal go in? was it the same ford part number? im tempted to shave the little rubber pieces and reinstall the housing so i can get this thing out of the garage.

Its not uncommon for the outer coating to peel a little... More so when you hit it directly with a HAMMER.... A wood block are a seal driver would have lessen the damage... Move on it should have no affect on its ability to seal...

Oh its back together, the seal was alittle loose on the shaft but I saw there is a thicker portion closer to the bearing in the front of the trans. My mom went in for back surgery saturday after hurting it 3 weeks ago so it will be a bit before my dad can come help me roll the 2 together. I have chain binders I could use but I'm more comfortable with 2 people. Not much room in my little garage to get out of the way if something happens.
