Looking at different front end loader tractors to use as a backup round baler loader tractor and other light duty haying operations like raking, tedding, etc. CL has a nice looking Ford 5900 with 777 loader. Anyone have any experience or thoughts about the Ford 5900 for loading round hay. Any thoughts appreciated.

No personal experience with a 5900, but it's basically a made-in-mexico 5600, built after the Series 10 models came out. I use a4600 to handle round bales and get along well... you'd have 10 more h.p. and a longer wheelbase. More gpm on the hydraulics would be nice, but they arent terrible. Might be a little underpowered on the round baler, but it should do as a backup there, too.

agree.. nice as a 5600 except no external hydraulic filter. Rumor is.. .when the 10 series came out, all the dies for the older 5600 went south of the border and they simply turned the 6 upside down to a 9. I have had three and had no complaints... Parts lookup books may be bit weird for a 5900, but since they are almost identical to the 5600, I have had no problem with parts.

IIRC you can upgrade the hydraulic pump to add the external filter, but then I have slept since then. Dealers down in Texas sold lots of them as they were cheaper than the 10 series by a bunch. So maybe thats why I see quite a few them down here.
